Dear Members, Partners and Friends,
Welcome to the Spring 2015 M-WERC Power Post, our quarterly report on our progress as an organization. We're excited about the progress we've made as an organization and our plans for the summer.
I'd like to start by welcoming our newest member UW-Parkside who recently joined our impressive list of academic partners - further solidifying our role as the region's convener of academia, industry and new start-ups in the energy, power, and controls sector.
We've added additional members to our team with the recent hires of Greg Meier and Nick Wichert as our new Managing Directors of Business Innovation at the Energy Innovation Center (EIC) the physical home to our business accelerator under development, focused on a targeted list of technologies in the energy, power and control sectors.
Remodeling efforts on the seventh floor of the EIC are now complete. The list of service providers and start ups in the facility already include:
- Komisar Brady
- Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C.
- Silicon Pastures
- General Capital
- Alliance Federated Energy
- Manufacturing Diversity Institute
We've maintained a strong programming schedule in the past few months, with our bio power-focused member meeting in January and a number of workshops hosted at the EIC with topics ranging from open innovation and energy efficiency to workforce development.
Work also continues with elected officials at the local, state and national level. We've made a number of trips to Washington DC and are working closely with our academic and regional partners on efforts to secure funding and support our national efforts to solidify our region as the innovation hub for the energy power and control sectors.
Check back soon or follow us on Twitter for details about the completion of our Energy Storage road map, which we will announce in the coming weeks.
This industry roadmap will become the third industry road map completed so far (Distributed Energy Resource Systems and Energy Efficiency being the other two). We're excited to begin efforts on the Energy Water Nexus road map next.
Thanks again for your support. I look forward to seeing you soon.
Alan S. Perlstein, Executive Director
